At Atkins Plumbing & Gas, we’re proud to have partnered with R.M.H Built to deliver the plumbing works for the extensive renovation of the Old Maitland Inn. This large-scale commercial refurbishment involved upgrading the bathrooms across multiple accommodation units, transforming outdated amenities into modern, functional spaces for future guests.

As an experienced commercial plumbing contractor servicing Maitland, Newcastle and the Hunter Valley, our team was responsible for the complete rough-in, plumbing alterations and final fit-off across numerous renovated units.

Project Overview

Working alongside R.M.H Built, Atkins Plumbing & Gas completed plumbing upgrades throughout multiple units, including Units 19–40, ensuring every bathroom met the requirements of the new renovation layout while complying with current Australian Standards.

Scope of Plumbing Works

Our works included the complete modification and installation of plumbing services, including:

Water Supply Alterations

• Disconnecting and safely capping existing hot and cold water services.
• Altering water supply pipework to suit the new bathroom layouts.
• Converting toilet water supplies from bottom-entry to rear-entry cisterns.
• Replacing outdated jumper valve shower outlets with modern mixer valve systems.
• Raising shower outlet heights to suit the new wall finishes.
• Altering vanity and basin water points to match new cabinetry and fixtures.

Concealed Pipework & Wall Preparation

To achieve a high-quality finish, all plumbing services were concealed within the bathroom walls.

Our team completed:

• Chasing walls to install new plumbing.
• Installing durable copper pipework with appropriate lagging on hot water services.
• Pressure testing all pipework before wall repairs.
• Rendering over chased walls following successful testing.
• Rendering over electrical conduits where required to assist other trades.

This ensured every bathroom was left ready for waterproofing, tiling and final finishes.

Bathroom Fit-Off & Commissioning

Once the renovation works were complete, our plumbers returned to carry out the final fit-off of all plumbing fixtures, including:

• Toilets
• Vanity basins
• Shower mixers and outlets
• Chrome basin waste pipework
• Bathroom tapware and accessories

Every fixture was carefully commissioned and tested to ensure reliable operation, correct water pressure and leak-free performance.

Drainage Works

As part of the renovation, we also:

• Cleaned floor wastes.
• Cleared shower wastes.
• Checked all drainage systems to ensure they were operating efficiently prior to handover.
